Today, Ferrara Fire some major updates for todays post. The rear box is being painted, the front emergency lights are installed and the pump panel is almost finished. The final inspection is scheduled for the end of Feburary. Everyone at FDLS is excited for the new Engine 59-1.

This week, Company 59 held training right off of Spring Garden Drive which focused on Ropes and Rigging. The crews went over the equipment that is on Rescue 59 along with setting up a few haul systems.

Today, Ferrara Fire sent up more detail pictures of the new Engine 59-1 with the emergency lights being installed also the pump panal is taking shape and looks to be finished very soon.

Working Structure Fire for Tanker 59

Monday Night, around 1:30, Tanker 59 was dispatched to listed address for a possible working trailer fire. Tanker 59 responded within a minute after dispatch to the 54-7 box in Londonderry Township. Tanker 59 arrived on location and supplied Engine 74-2 with water as no hydrants were avilable on site. The main fire was knocked down within a few minutes. Extensive overhaul was done after the main fire was knocked down. Command 54 placed all units in service after about 3 hours of operation.

Progress Report #6: Engine 59-1

Tonight, Ferrara Fire sent up more detail pictures of the new Engine 59-1 with the finishing metal work being done along with the trays being installed. The Engine is really taking shape and look forward to keep seeing progress.

The Lower Swatara Fire Department would like to express our condolences to the United Hook and Ladder (Adams County, Station 33) as well as the family of Firefighter Brandon Little who tragically lost his life while responding to the fire station for a house fire.

Progress Report #5: Engine 59-1

Today, FDLS recieved more pictures of Engine 59-1, you can now see the finishing of the inside of the compartments along with the pump. The wiring for the box is also moving along. Production is moving along in a very fast pace.

Accident with Confinment on Twindell Curve

This morning, Company 59 and Rescue 88 were dispatched to Twindale Curve for an accident with injuries with possible confinment. Rescue 59 responded and once on scene took command 59. The accident involved a single vehicle into a tree with one patient still inside unable to get out. Rescue 88 arrived on location and assisted the 59 crews with extraction of the single patient. The patient was extracted by pushing the dash and removing the shifter to make it an easier extraction. Command marked extraction complete in 6 minutes, the patient was packaged and care was transfered to EMS. Command then placed all units in service with no more fire services needed. Units were out for about a half an hour.

This evening, Ferrara Fire has sent us some more shots of the new engine in production. The cab is complete, the pump module is coming along and the box is taking shape. Updates are coming very fast about every 5 days major progress is shown.

New Equipment Added to Rescue 59

Today, the Lower Swatara Fire Department added a new tool to the arsenal of tools on Rescue 59. Due to the ever changing environment that the fire service comes in contact with, company 59 felt it should keep up to date with the various materials and strength that are seen in everyday vehicles. FDLS decided that a bigger cutter was needed to combat some the challenges that was seen lately in various trainings and accidents. The company put into service the Amkus-22 Cutter with a cutting force of 200,807 lbs. This tool will accompany the many changes Lower Swatara Fire Department has coming in the near furture with the addition to a new Engine and Rescue in the coming year.
