Working Fire in the 55-2 Box

This afternoon, (11/11) Box 55-2 was struck for a structure fire at 590 Eshelman Street in Highspire Borough. Station 59 had a crew in station and was out the door within a minute of dispatch. Engine 59-1 went enroute with three personnel. Reports were given by the Police Department of a working fire on the porch that was rapidly starting to extend into the house. Engine 59-1 arrived on location taking the hydrant about three hundred feet from the residence and laid in. Engine 55 led off with a 2 1/2 inch line to the front of the residence. Rescue 59 was close behind, once arriving sent manpower. Chief 59 took operations and assisted with crews operating on the inside. The engine crew pulled a line off Engine 59-1 and went to work assisting the 55 crew with knocking the fire down and made entry into the residence to start a primary search for two dogs reported to be inside. FF Lenker took the front door with FF Campbell close behind. Once the crew made entry one dog was located and was taken from the residence and handed to EMS and waiting fire crews. The crews continued to search the first floor with nothing found and went to search the second floor. The other dog was located in the bathroom area and was removed immediately. The dog was handed over to waiting EMS crewmembers but due to the extent of time inside a smoke filled environment the dog succumbed to its injuries. All the fire was knocked very quickly by the 59 and 55 crewmembers. The crews did salvage and overhaul operations and then waited on the PSP FM to arrive. The house sustained a lot of damage but the fire was held on the first floor with smoke and heat damage to the second and third floors. The crews were out for over 2 hours.

All the crews did a Great Job!
