School Bus Accident with Ejection on the Pike

This Morning (3/14), Rescue and Engine was dispatched to West Harrisburg Pike in the area of Jack’s Auto Sales & McDonalds for an accident with injuries. Rescue 59 responded with four personnel, enroute county advised of a single patient at McDonalds that has been ejected. Rescue 59 arrived on location confirming 1 patient ejected, the crew assist EMS with patient care and packaging with Lt. 59 setting up Command 59. Command 59 advised of a pick up truck pushed into the McDonalds building and the school bus into the side of Jack’s Auto Sales. Engine 55 was dispatched to assist with the accident. Engine 55 arrived on location, command requesting them to the scene of the school bus to check for hazards, to shut down the bus and to check the building for integrity. The township codes enforcement officer and Fire Marshall arrived on location to check the structures with all structures deemed safe.

Command 59 was advised by the police department that a DCART (Crash Reconstruction) team was en route to the location for investigation of the accident. The crew stood-by for about three hours until the investigation was finished. Once the investigation was over, the tow company arrived to pull the bus out of the building. The other vehicles were removed and debris was cleared from the roadway. With no services needed, Command 59 placed the box in service.
