Heavy Entrapment on Interstate 283
On Tuesday, (4/3), County dispatched Box 91-3 that brought Rescue 49 and 44 for a vehicle accident with entrapment at mile marker .8 Northbound on Interstate 283. LT. 38 was on scene when the accident happened and started to go to work advising of one patient with heavy entrapment in a VW Jetta. Rescues 49 and 44 were enroute within moments of dispatch, once arriving had a tractor trailer on its side along with multiple vehicles in the median area of the highway. Rescues 59 along with other units were dispatched about 15 minutes into the original dispatch to assist with extrication and the heavy fuel spill that happened when the tractor trailer went on its side. LT. 38 requested Lifelion to be placed on stand-by for a possible fly-out. Rescue 49 and Rescue 44 crews extricated the patient within 10 minutes and was advised that a fly-out was needed for the single patient. Rescue 59 along with Engine 41 were advised to assist with the landing zone once arriving on location. Rescue 44 had the fuel spill contained prier to the arrived of Rescue 59, the landing zone was set up and the crews stood-by for Lifelion.
Lifelion arrived on location landing in the northbound lane. Rescue 59 was then requested to transfer to Swatara Station 49 to stand-by due to so many units being tied up at the scene. The crew stood by for about 30 minutes until being released by command 91.
