Delayed Post (Hazmat in the 59 Box)

On Monday, July 25th, EMS was dispatched to Turnpike Industrial Drive for a class 1 breathing problems. EMS arrived on location with three people experiencing different symptoms from breathing problems, eye irritation. Company 59 was dispatched to assist and to investigate to see if it was safe to inhabit the building. Rescue 59 along with Utility 59 responded once arriving on scene the rescue crew went inside to investigate and found nothing but started to experience some peoples with eye irritation. Command 59 (Lt. 59-1) requested truck 88 along with Rescue 49, 50 and the Hazmat 77 Duty Officer.

Truck 88 arrived and went to the roof to check the ventilation system with nothing found. Rescue 59 and 50’s crews were sent in to check along with another 59 crew. The crew did not locate anything until finding out the forklifts just had routine maintenance done to it. It was sending out a large amount of Carbon Monoxide and was not being vented properly. The building was vented and the forklift taken out of service, with no fire services needed command 59 placed the box in service.
