National Fire Prevention Week

October is National Fire Prevention and Safety month and this week the 9th thru the 16th is fire prevention week. This week crews from FDLS along with mutual aid companies took part in open houses at the various fire departments throughout Dauphin County along with visiting schools, daycares and businesses to promote fire prevention and safety. The week started out for FDLS at a local school, Reid Elementary then to Kunkel the following day utilizing the departments smoke house. On Thursday the 13th, After a rainy week the Annual Open House at FDLS was held with about 500 people in attendance throughout the night. Various companies from the surrounding area came out to show what fire departments are all about and what kind of equipment we have to utilize in this special service. Friday, the crew was back out in the community at Fink Elementary in Middletown. At open house, FDLS had Engine & Rescue rides, ladder trucks flying to view, The “Smoke House”, a house fire for the children to extinguish and many other vehicles and agencies to view along with talk too. The crews at FDLS love this time of year to go out and show, along with tell the community what hard work we do everyday and throughout the year. The crews at FDLS taught over 1,000 students at all the Middletown elementary schools throughout the week.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the companies and participants that showed up to make this event a HUGE success! We have already started preparing for next year.
