Busy Weekend for Company 59

This weekend, Company 59 answered seven calls for service in Lower Swatara Township along with mutual aid areas. The crews answered four automatic alarms in two residences and Best Western Hotel in Lower Swatara Township along one alarm in Middletown.

Friday Evening, Company 59 along with mutual aid units responded to 11 Richard Avenue for a reported structure fire. Chief 59-2 responded along with Engine 59 immediately. Chief 59-2 arrived with nothing showing from all sides of a single story ranch home. Engine 59 arrived on location taking the hydrant and sending a crew in to investigate. The police department reported light smoke in the bedroom area which the crew confirmed once entering. The crew found a small electrical fire had extended outside the electrical box. The crew secured the power to the bedroom and opened the wall with minor extension. The crew overhauled the small area, command held the assignment to Engine 59 and Truck 88. Once the crews confirmed no other extension, no fire services were needed command placed the box in service, crews were out for about an hour.

Sunday, brings back to back accidents. Company 88 was dispatched to an accident with multiple injuries in the area of Main St. and North Union Street. Chief 88 arrived on scene with multiple vehicles struck with traumatic injuries including a motorcycle on the ground. Command upgraded the box bringing in Rescue and Engine 59 to the scene, both company 59 units arrived on location and assisted with patient care, fluids and other tasks until being released due to a first due crash in Lower Swatara Township.

Company 59 responded to the 59-8 box at Country Apple House with a vehicle into a pole after a small storm moved into the area. Rescue and Engine arrived on location with a single vehicle into the pole with one patient refusing treatment. The crews held on scene for traffic control until the tow company could remove the vehicle. Once the vehicle was removed, command placed the box in service after about an hour.
