Starting Sunday Morning, crews started to prepare for the worst as Hurricane Sandy was approaching bringing high winds, inches of rain and the possiblity of massive power outages,trees down along with flooding. The crews did rig checks of all appuratus and the boat crews went over all water rescue equipment. The station was staffed with 20+ personnel at the height of the storm with crews standing by from Sunday to Tuesday. Station 59 responded to multiple wires down and automatic fire alarms during the storm but it was quiet for most of the storm.
The Lower Swatara Fire Department also became a deployment point for Federal Foresty crews from central, Pennsylvania & the Southern United States as they are making their way to New York and Long Island to help with the devistation in the areas affected.
