Two Vehicle Accident Ends in Tragedy on PA 283

Early Monday morning, Box 91-2 was transmitted sending crews from Swatara Township to Interstate 283 Southbound for a two vehicle accident with injuries. Life Team EMS was first on scene reporting a two vehicle accident at mile marker .9 with one in on the roadway and the other in the median with a possible head-on collision. The EMS crews assessed both patients finding one deceased and the other in cardiac arrest. Engine 49 responded and with updated information given the accident was put in Lower Swatara Township. Quickly, Dauphin County communications dispatched Company 59 putting Rescue 59 and Engine 59-1 on the street. Engine 49 and Rescue 44 arrived on location and reported the same setting up command 59. Rescue 59 arrived moments later checking another struck vehicle south of the original accident with no injuries. Chief 59-1 arrived on location assuming the role of command 59. The EMS crew had already determining one occupant deceased, they also determined the other occupant was also deceased moments after the fire department arrival on location. The fire crews awaited the Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction team and once the team completed the investigation the crews assisted with extricating the two occupants along with clearing of debris off the roadway. The crews were out for approx. two and a half hours.
