Fatal Accident on PA Turnpike

Wednesday Afternoon, Rescue 59 was dispatched to assist on a single vehicle accident with reported entrapment on the PA Turnpike, Eastbound Ramp. Dauphin County Communications reporting a single vehicle had left the Harrisburg East Ramp and now is in the grass median after flipping multiple times with a critically injured patient. Engine 55 responded arriving first establishing Command 76 confirming the report. Rescue 59 arrived on location seconds later beaching the rescue in the grass median to make sure access was acceptable for EMS. Life Lion was placed on stand-by but was cancelled by the EMS physician that had arrived from Hershey Medical Center. The crews started rapid extrication to get the patient out of the vehicle as quick as possible so the best care could be given. The crews quickly moved the single patient to awaiting transporting EMS unit. After patient care was transferred to EMS, command held the box to Engine 55 and Rescue 59. After about an hour, Rescue 59 returned to quarters. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle did succumbed to his injuries once he arrived at Hershey Medical Center.
