Small Fire in the 4 Box

Monday morning, Box 59-4 was struck for a possible porch fire at 79 Hanover Street. Engine 55 and Engine 59-1 responded within minutes of dispatch. Engine 55 arrived taking first due engine company duties taking a hydrant and laying in. Engine 59-1 arrived on location taking side “A” of the structure setting up command 59. The crews from 59 and 55 located the small fire on the porch that the police department quickly knocked down with an extinguisher. It was found to be a bird’s nest that had ignited due to the heat of the porch light that was switched on by accident. No birds were injured by the nest fire as they were gone for the day. The crews found no smoke or extension into the house. Command downgraded the box quickly holding Engine 59-1 and Engine 55. After securing the electric to the light, command placed the box in service.
