Island Cabin Fire

Last Night, Company 59 was dispatched to Box 59-9 for reported smoke coming from a island. Harrisburg International Airport Fire Department saw a large column of smoke coming from a island directly across from HIA. Captain 703 went to the river side of the runway and reported what was thought to be a large brush fire (30×30). Engine, Tanker and the Water Rescue Team from company 59 responded and launched boat 59 from Highspire Boat Launch to investigate. Boat 59 arrived on location with a working cabin fire on the island and asked for boats 54 and 88 to respond to assist with extinguishment. The boat 59 crew quickly did a 360 of the structure with no occupants on the island and a cabin well involved. Command was advised to move all operations to the North Union Street launch so all equipment could be in a single area. Once resources (Portable Pumps & Equipment) arrived, the cabin fire was quickly knocked down and command was advised of a controlled situation. The Fish and Boat commission was advised along with the Township Fire Marshall and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. The overall phase began and once it was completed in about an hour the crews returned to the command post. The crews from 59, 54 and 88 showed impressive team work during the operation, great job to all the crews. The crews were out for about three hours.
