House Fire In The 88-3 Box

Around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, Engine 59-1 and Rescue 59 were dispatched as part of a first alarm assignment for a reported house on fire in the 88-3 box at South Union Street and Pike Street. Chief 88 responded immediately and was advised of multiple calls reporting a well off house, across from the old station 58 fire station. Chief 88 arrived with a 2.5 story cape cod style, single family structure with fire on all floors striking a full first alarm correcting the address as 12 state street. Once Chief 88 gave his report, he was advised of all six occupants out but with 5 burn patients with additional EMS units coming in to attend to the multiple patients. Engine 59-1 was out quickly and once arriving took the second engine company duties picking up the hydrant on South Cameron and State streets laying to the scene to supply Truck 88. Engine 88 lead off with their deck master stream and a 2.5″ handline. Engine 59-1 supplied Truck 88 as they prepared to go in service with their ariel master stream. The Engine 59-1 and Rescue 59 crews depolyed two additional 2.5″ handlines off Engine 59-1 and placed them in service to assist with exposure protection and knockdown of the house. The crews worked for about an hour until the fire was knocked down with operations (Chief 88-2, Scheetz) advising to mark control. The crews then went into extensive overhaul operations for the next few hours until the incident was scaled back to Company 88 and 59 units. Engine and Rescue 59 went available after about four hours of operating on the scene.

This fire was the second working incident for Middletown in the last 24 hours. It was strong work by the crews on the scene and prayers for the family involved.
