A Big Thank You!
This morning, the Lower Swatara Fire Department along with Township Commissioner and Firefighter William Leonard invited Pennsylvania State Representative John Payne and Deputy Secretary for Highway Administration, Scott Christie, P.E to Station 59. This meeting was to thank them for the Fulling Mill Road construction between the Pennsylvania Lottery and Station 59 buildings. Township Commissioner William Leonard was the forerunner of the project as he was the voice to instill more safety in that area for traffic. Mr. Payne and Mr. Christie received plaques of gratitude from the Lower Swatara Fire Department. Also, Mr. Leonard was surprised by Mr. Payne as he received a letter thanking him for his 14 years of service to the Lower Swatara Township as he is retiring at the end of the year. This construction is pivotal to not just the fire department but the residents as this was a major congestion spot for traffic as people can enter Interstate PA 283 at that point creating lines of traffic to the Oberlin Road/Fulling Mill Road traffic light. PennDot completed the construction in a few months and now turn lanes are in place so traffic can keep moving on Fulling Mill Road safely. This construction also helps responders get to the station a little quicker as the traffic congestion is not as great. This also isn’t just good for the responders but now apparatus (Fire Equipment) responding to emergency incidents can do it safety.
