Commercial Structure Fire In The 46 Box

Around 1800 hours, Tanker 59 was dispatched to Hummelstown Borough, Box 46-2 at the 200 blk of West Second Street for a reported commercial structure fire. A working fire was confirmed quickly by the Police Department on scene with thick smoke pushing from the roofline. Tanker 59 responded quickly with 2 followed shortly after by Rescue 59 with 4 as a replacement  unit. On arrival Tanker 59 was ordered to beach the rig and send manpower forward due to hydrants in the area. Command hit evacuation tones quickly as the building was heavy damaged (Roof and Floor Collapsing) and not worth the risk to firefighters. Rescue 59 arrived on location and was given the same assignment as Tanker 59 to send all available manpower to go to work.  Both Tanker 59 and Rescue 59 remained on scene for several hours assisting with overhaul and salvage operations. The  Tanker crew was put to work supporting the hydrants during the hydraulic (water) overhaul by the truck companies on scene.
